WHY IS HONORING OTHERS IMPORTANT?
JAMES C. RODRIGUEZ

Why Is Honoring Others Important?

When we recognize the impacts of others in the lives they have touched and give them a moment of celebration and recognition they matter, we also receive from giving. By honoring another, you are saying you see great value in them. How do you define honoring another person? What makes a dad more special than a father? Why should we strive to show the nominations and eventually honorees at our international conference to them that we care and that they are essential to us? In the honoring, four crucial questions are answered with millions of moments and memories. When genuinely modeled to others generations, the cornerstones of passion, purpose, mentoring, and devotion are changed because of one person, one leader, one dad, one couple, and a person committed to community service.

Too many amazing people have been invincible.

How many of us remember a coach, teacher, neighbor, clergy member, or maybe a stranger who treated you kindly?  Perhaps you are flooded with memories caught in your life when you needed that kindness as a child, during awkward teen years, young adult, and throughout the season of your life. Your moments of receiving kindness can be translated as an encounter that transcended instant gratification. As these moments may not be replicated again, the recognitions at our annual gala represent the importance of treating each moment as a unique experience, enjoying it to the fullest before it is lost forever. I invite you to reflect on the understanding of how important the “now” is and why let's honor many who are invincible to special recognition.

Maybe it is time to recognize someone special to you.

The awards represent honoring fathers who quietly rose as a fantastic dad, and often mentored others who were not their son or daughter to give balance. The Honorable Stanley Seiderman Father of the Year was named by a person often invincible to the greater society. Still, he spent decades pouring into the lives of others and a vision to establish one of the San Francisco Bay Area and nation's fatherhood organizations to help fathers with young children in early childhood education programs. He modeled finding purpose leading to transforming the lives of dads and, ultimately, generations. The Couples of Excellence Dr. Gene and Sarah Blue is a direct example of a devoted husband overflowing with passion for his bride at all times. The honorees have models that devotion, with some couples married for over seventy-five years, founded on a commitment. The inaugural Couples of Excellence honorees ushered in a vision of strengthening society, starting in the home. The ability to advance purpose, passion, mentoring, and legacy is the blend of the national leadership award, The Honorable John S. Martinez Honoree, given to others who championed healthy families or a cause to be the difference.

Annually we come together for an adopted family reunion. The expectations set for this time with a determined effort have surpassed the imagination of any award ceremony. A unique red tie and red dress gala are more vibrant than the colors of attire and more profound than the passion associated with red. The flowing of tears, deep laughter from the gut, and thoughtful insights of vision give each conference attendee, community member, gala guest, and of course, honorees a lifetime moment.

I invite you to nominate a dad or couple, join our team of volunteers, and register for Drs. Ramon and Yolanda Nieves Family Affair Red Tie Red Dress Gala as part of our family at the Fathers and Families Coalition of America.
