Father's Day week is here, and the Fathers and Families Coalition of America is honored to host a National Fireside Conversation on the Impacts of Policies and Strengthening Families.

We invite you to join our featured speaker, Congressman Danny K. Davis, Il-07, Chair of a crucial sub-committee with the responsibilities of many legislations impacting millions through federally funded programs. 

Fathers and Families Coalition of America desired to add to the experience with four colleagues advancing policies to improve the outcomes of children through engaging fathers. We are excited about the anticipated briefings from State Representative La Shaw K. Ford (IL) and Dr. Rufus Sylvester Lynch, ACSW will give insights into two-state (Illinois and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania) 2022 bills that will transform how states can augment the suggestions by Congress to state law, funding, and advancement of best practices. 

The National Fireside Policy Conversation could not happen without two essential speakers, Mr. Jeffery M. Leving, LTD, Chicago, IL, who will effectively give attendees sound process strategies to advocate for children in our virtual meeting. Dr. Jill Hunter-Williams, Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Danny K. Davis, provided a fantastic briefing for our conference attendees on March 11, 2022. Dr. Hunter-Williams will provide essential policies to improve engaging fathers in systems that include: OFA TANF federally funded programs, Child Support, and Child Welfare as three examples.

U.S. Congressman Danny K. Davis - Brief Biography

Danny K. Davis was chosen by the people of the 7th Congressional District of Illinois as their Representative in Congress on November 5, 1996. Large majorities have reelected him to succeeding Congresses.
 
In the 117th Congress, Representative Davis has been reappointed to the Committee on Ways and Means and is the Chairman of the Worker and Family Support Subcommittee. Davis also serves on the Oversight and Reform Committee. Congressman Davis is a member of several Congressional Caucuses, including the Congressional Black Caucus, the Progressive Caucus, the Urban Caucus, the Community Health Center's Caucus, the Congressional Sugar Caucus, the Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys, and Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Re-entry.
 
Congressman Davis has distinguished himself as an articulate voice for his constituents and as an effective legislator able to move major bills to passage. He has developed a unique and energetic style of communication and interaction with his constituents setting up dozens of advisory task forces to consider significant questions of public policy. He hosts several weekly television and radio shows that feature audience calls and produces regular written reports for every household in the district. In addition, he maintains weekly office hours in the district and is widely sought after as a speaker at conferences and events.
 
In the 117th Congress, Representative Davis is firmly committed to preserving our democracy, protecting social security, maintaining our nation's gains in civil and human rights, women's rights, voting rights, protection of the environment, consumer and labor protections, reducing inequality, and ensuring quality, affordable health care for all, while maintaining his long time focus on issues of job creation, poverty, health care, education, youth, and criminal justice reform.
 
Before his election to the Congress, he served on the Cook County Board of Commissioners, having been elected in November 1990 and reelected in November 1994. Previously, he served for eleven years as a member of the Chicago City Council as Alderman of the 29th Ward.
 
Before seeking public office, Congressman Davis had productive careers as an educator, community organizer, health planner/administrator, and civil rights advocate. He has received hundreds of awards and citations for outstanding work in health, education, human relations, politics, and advocacy, including six honorary Doctorate Degrees from well-known Colleges and Universities. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States and has spent time in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and South and Central America.
 
Born in Parkdale, Arkansas, on September 6, 1941, Congressman Davis moved to the Westside of Chicago in 1961 after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arkansas A.M. & N. College. He subsequently earned both Master's and Doctorate degrees from Chicago State University and the Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio.
 
He is married to Vera G. Davis, has two sons, Jonathan and Stacey (deceased), and is a member and Deacon of the New Galilee M.B. Church.

8th District for the State of Illinois will discuss a state policy focus on strengthening families through unique fatherhood legislation.

Dr. Jill Hunter-Williams is Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Danny K. Davis (Chicago, IL), with whom she has worked for 17 years. Given her Ph.D. in clinical-community psychology, Dr. Hunter-Williams' policy expertise centers on income security, child welfare, p-12 education, child development, higher education, child and education tax policy, IDEA, and fatherhood programs, with primary responsibility for work on behalf of the Congressman on the Ways and Means Committee Subcommittees on Worker and Family Support, Social Security, Select Revenue, and Oversight. 

Dr. Rufus Sylvester Lynch, ACSW, Founder and Commission Chair of the Strong Families Commission, Member of the Board of Directors of Fathers and Families Coalition of America. Dr. Lynch is a forensic macro practice social worker and former Dean of the Whitney M. Young, Jr. School of Social Work at Clark Atlanta University. He has lectured at over a dozen colleges and universities; authored or co-authored over 30 published manuscripts in professional books and scholarly journals; and has actively participated in over 200 professional conferences, workshops, and training institutes. He has authored legislation that passed the House of Representatives for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania focused on fatherhood policies.

Jeffery M. Leving, Ltd.,  has been recognized by government leaders (including 3 U.S. Presidents), private industry, and his peers. The Illinois House of Representatives honored Leving "for his work in safeguarding the rights of fathers and protecting the welfare of children and families in this State" and for his "hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois. He has authored public and social policies for elected representatives. He will provide remarks and a summation to use in your agency, community, and state to make a difference.
